Yes, I recommend it 'cause it works. No, its not the best laptop; it is heavy and the viewing angles on the screen are pretty poor. Wifi works with ndiswrapper.
Everything worked out-of-box with each of these three distros, except Modem (untested), Built-in Wifi (Broadcom 5700, which does work with ndiswrapper though), and the extra buttons.

I've heard that there is an "acer extra button" package somewhere that gets these going, but i have no idea and never tried.
FYI my machine is an Aspire 3002LCi but it came with a DVD+-RW, 512MB, and Sepmron 3000. just lucky i guess!
