Scanner includes negative scanning which sane has facilities to do.
Not necessary to do any hacks to get going.

Works great with sane. I was a little reluctant to buy a refurbished unit, but with moderate usage for nearly 2 yrs, zero problems! Got mine directly from Epson. If you can find one, snatch it up.
