Supported with gutenprint-5.0 beta 3 and later; alternatively, you can use the driver for the 6400, as mentioned. Color photos print exceptionally, black and whites are still in progress, because I took a break.
The only caveat is that the gutenprint driver has not been tuned for glossy paper, specifically the DuraBrite paper that gives the best results, as the printer uses DuraBrite inks. Not a big problem, but I did not realize the importance of using the proper paper, and needed to find the proper settings to get good results. Prints now rival (and sometimes exceed, IMO) the prints I get from the local drugstore or Wal-Mart.
The scanner works great, and will work as non-root if you set your permissions correctly; ie add a scanner group, add yourself to it, and make sure your usb hotplug scripts are correct.
The card reader works perfectly without any special configuration. Print from card also works fine, as do the other standalone functions (copy, etc.)
All in all, a good buy, and pretty good on ink consumption, I believe. Of course, I haven't had a photo printer before, so I don't have much to base that opinion on.
Epson has been running a fifty dollar mail-in rebate for a while, so my price was 150.
