I popped it in and it works (Suse 9.3). No muss, no fuss.
I haven't tried anything dual layer yet, but this drive is FAST. The specs say 4X double layer, 16X DVD R/-R write speed, 8X DVD RW, 6X DVD-RW, 16X DVD read speed, 48X CD read/write. I haven't measured, but it is definitely very quick, and works just fine with Linux.
