Worked as expected out of the box, without loading a driver, requiring any reconfig or even hooking up the external power supply.
On my Ubuntu 5.04 box, a mount point was created automatically by plugging into USB port on machine running Ubuntu 5.04 (kernel 2.6.10-5-386).
partial output of mount command:
usbfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw)
/dev/sda1 on /media/ARCDISK type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,quiet,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=077,iocharset=utf8)
/media/ARCDISK/
On first inspection, I found a directory named /media/ARCDISK/recycled containing 70 items, totalling 42.3 MB. This was a little weird since there are some .mp3 files dated 7-7-2007, a bunch of .pif and .txt files and an .ini file. All junk that I suspected Windoze made some use of. When I connected the ARCDisk20 to a Windoze box, the /recycled folder was not visible, possibly because it has some special relationship with the Windoze recyle bin. Anyway, it all seemed sort of weird but harmless.
I was able to "sneaker-net" files between Linux and Windoze boxes, which was one of my requirements, so it just worked!
Thanks to qbik.ch for a posting there on a similar Archos device that let me know that this should work.
