Quite nicely compatible, in mandrake it was a plug n play affair, only thing i had to download was software to view the cam with (obviously!). I had actually downloaded and installed a third party driver only to find i didnt need to, but for those who dont seem to get support then http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/ should have all the drivers and info you need to get up and running.

The reason i give it an 9 is im not currently sure where you retrieve the stills that were taken with the camera's button, i dont think it is possibly but to be honest it doesnt me in the slightest, but it is a slight flaw none the less.

There is no Linux support from Logitech. It does work fine with 2.4.23 kernel. Does not work with 2.6.0, I have heard rumors that someone once got it to work, but that has not been confirmed yet.

Makes a nice paperweight :P

As of 12/30/2003 the qc-usb driver will work with 2.6 kernel.

I got this with something, or really, I just found it in my house. I had to recompile the kernel with V4L support, but once I did the qc-usb driver seems to work.

Only problems: locating the information on what modules to load and what programs to use to see camera output.

Vendor Id and Product Id were important in finding which modules to load. Loaded videodev and quickcam modules. Ran gqcam to see the output. Works great!

I have the OLDDDD one.. the circle in a triangle base... no still button or anything like that. It was CHEAP... like $20 when they made it. It works GREAT too. Worked flawlessly in:

- Mandrake 9.1
- Mandrake 9.2
- Mandrake 10.0 OE
- Mandrake 10.1 OE
- Debian Sarge
- Fedora Core 3

Newer versions of this product do not work with the qc-usb driver and instead use the spca5xx driver.

It's quite a nice product and was easy to get working however I have a major gripe. The resolution does not go up to 640x480 like the box says. The maximum is in fact 352x288 and higher resolutions are acheived by interpolation performed by the supplied software. This is the reason for the low rating

i have spent over a year now trying to get this webcam to work under FC3, FC4 and FC5 but no luck. can anyone post something on this page on how to install it rather than just babble about how nicely it works !!

works fine with suse 10.0just unzip it install it and kopete will find web camera immediately

Start HERE and download the driver. Make sure you have your kernel sources installed properly. Untar the driver and go to driver directory:
tar xjvf qc-usb-0.6.4.tar.gz
cd qc-usb-0.6.4
Run the install script:
./quickcam.sh
You could also just run make then manually put the quickcam.ko in /lib/modules/`uname -r`/misc and run depmod -a.

Remember you need a kernel with USB support. Also your kernel should have V4L2 support (in multimedia devices) enabled.

You might need to load some modules to get things going:
modprobe ehci_hcd
modprobe videodev
modprobe quickcam

Works well!

so the image kinda sucks, and you have to unplug/plug back in a lot
but, it works using the quickcam module under v4l (video4linux)

this cam does not have a microphone built in, not that i really care. the nice thing is that i picked up several of these really cheap on ebay, could be of great use for robotics projects and what not.
