Description: 1200 x 1200 dpi (black)
4800 x 1200 dpi (color)

Uses HP 56 (color cartridge); HP 56 (black cartridge); HP 58 (photo cartridge).

Tested both parallel & USB connections and performance with no visual difference.

CUPS handles installation and configuration very well.
I hate to use Windows as a reference, but compared to Windows use, there is no visual difference in performance and ability.

Summary: works very well in linux (kernels 2.4.21 & 2.6.11 tested)
Keywords: hp deskjet 5650 printer usb
Connection Type: USB, parallel

Margins are not easy to figure out. That is true of all the printers I have configured and used in Linux. There is no ink monitor or status page. Without Windows you might not be using ink as efficiently as you can. I recommend this printer for use with Linux. It has been on the HPIJS driver list for sometime. It cooperates with CUPS.

Available with drivers supplied with both the community and official distribution and can be easily selected via the MCC or during install. Adds the 'HP Toolbox' software for maintenance, testing and information..and works great.

Cons: No ink monitor!
