Description: This is a hardware/software modem. It uses the PCI interface and will show up easily in any lspci queue.

Support for the card is present up to the 2.4 kernel and possibly the 2.5 kernel, but breaks in 2.6. Otherwise, with the driver provided, it can run very easily under kernel modules.

Works only for 2.4 ver Kernel , Need to implement driver for 2.6 ver kernel as the driver provided is the OLD MODULE FORMAT (i.e. ".o" file)

can only be used for 2.4 ver kernel. I Had to buy ANOTHER MODEM.

Read related problem solved by another member in 2.6 VERSION KERNEL ! (actually in 2.6.8 version kernel) check it out at

Just wanted to update the previous review - after it was written, drivers became available for 2.6 kernels. You can find them here:

This modem works fine for me, and there are many used ones available now (manufacturer no longer exists).

If you must buy a winmodem, buy this one. It works perfectly for me with the drivers the last reviewer pointed out. Haven't had any problems with it yet...

Works on this platform as well, all I need to do is copy/paste an init string or 2 to get above 9600bps

NOTE: To enable on-boot access after running ./setup on Slack 12, do the following as root:

# modprobe linmodem
# modprobe pctel
# modprobe pctel_hw
# depmod
It will not only work out of box, but should run on reboot.
