Logitech Dual Action USB

Description: The Logitech Dual Action USB is a standard gamepad, much like the Playstation 2 controller in both shape and arrangement (down to being able to 'push' the analog joysticks for additional buttons). I believe it also has 'rumble' support but I don't know how to test it.

Trying to use it with a 2.6.8 kernel caused problems. It wouldn't load the driver and any attempt to view /proc/bus/usb/* afterwards would cause the process to hang so badly that a kill -9 wouldn't even get rid of it. 2.6.10 it worked with no problems. SDL apps recognize all the controls, making emulators such as MAME and ZSnes much easier to use.
Keywords: gamepad analog joysticks playstation

I just wanted to confirm the previous post: it doesn't work on my kernel either, which is a 2.6.8 too. Here are the kernel messages I get when I insert the gamepad:

usb 2-3: new low speed USB device using address 5
[A few seconds later...]
drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: ctrl urb status -2 received
drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed

... then the whole USB system seems lost on my machine, until a reboot. Anyway, this seems to have been solved in future versions of the kernel, as it was said in the previous post.

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.20
Distribution: Ubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn"

This gamepad works out of the box on many of the up-to-date distros I've tried, including Ubuntu 7.04, Xubuntu 6.06, Fedora 7, Mandriva 2007.1 One edition, and Ubuntu 6.06.1. So far, it has worked with any program that supports joysticks, or at least, the programs I have to test. This gamepad is very similar in design to the PlayStation 2 controller. The only real feature it lacks is rumble, which can be found in the "Logitech Rumblepad 2 gamepad" for $25.
