Description: The company PPA is called "Parts, Peripherals and Accessories" ... http://www.ppa-usa.com/

They include driver information for Linux on their website:
http://www.ppa-usa.com/product_pages...d/6channel.htm
http://www.cmedia.com.tw/linux/e-linux.htm
No need to download the driver (it is standard in Linux).

Card works fine, be sure to check the connector markings in the paperwork so everything is plugged in appropriately. There don't appear to be any issues with the card. If you want a CM8738 based sound card, this seems to be a good choice.

The Linux driver appears to be completely reliable in stereo. It doesn't always sound correct in 5.1 surround mode, apparently either due to the volume controls or data corruption. Reloading the module can make a difference.
Problem reported to driver author (who has no idea).

I'm using 2.6.9 but there are driver versions in the 2.4 kernel series too. The ALSA configurator knows about the chip.
