This modem works great out-of-the-box with both the distro's mentioned.
Really easy to configure - all you need to do is enter in your ISP details (username, password, their phonenumber that you connect to), select a couple of other usual details like what kind of phone you have (eg - tone or pulse), set the modem speed (115200) and 'bob's your uncle'. That means it dials and you get online right away!
For Pup use the 'Connect' icon, for Knoppix Security (I forget the rest of the kernel version) configure the PPP, then use 'pon' commands. In Backtrack you use KPPP dialer and the speed is 57600 instead.
btw - it dials really noisily! In case that's an issue for anyone, late-night-dialing when others are trying to sleep. And it redials (on my ISP anyway) so you stay online past any cut-off point.
It also works in win98, in case that's any use for anyone. You need to use the drivers provided.
