Description: Advantages according to LaCie:

- 2nd generation FireWire 800 chipset (up to 50% faster for small blocks)
- Stackable, upright, rack-mount or daisy-chain configurations

Speed of disk: 7200 rpm, 8 MB buffer, 10ms average seek time (write).

Capacity: 250GB

The box contents:
LaCie Storage Utilities CD-ROM, FireWire 800 to FireWire 800 (9-to-9 pin) cable, FireWire 400 to FireWire 400 (6-to-6 pin) cable and iLink/DV (6-to-4 pin) cable, USB 2.0 cable, Drive stand for upright desktop use, External power supply

The CD-ROM contains Mac/Windows software only. The drive is preformatted for the Mac. It works fine in Linux with the USB 2.0 interface, I have not yet tried either 1394a/b FireWire interface under GNU/Linux.

Works great with Ubuntu. I didn't even notice that it was formatted for a Mac. This is great for trading files between a Mac and Linux as Linux works much better with USB 2.0 and OS X works much better with Firewire. Copied all my vmware images (with all the software I wanted installed) and websites over to the drive. Oh, btw: mine is only 160 Gb - that is the smallest capacity model.
