All seems to works fine.
Have burnt CD, CD-RW, DVD+, DVD+RW, DVD-RW. Have not tried dual layer yet.
Nice of the folks at plextor to link to a Linux-flash utility for firmware upgrade.

CD burning seems to work fine.
DVDs are a different matter, however: either cdrecord or growisofs produce only coasters, both with DVD+R and DVD-R. Has someone managed to get this drive to burn DVDs properly?

No problems at all. Thanks from me too for the linux firmware updating utility.
The updating tool can be found at http://www.plextor.be/technicalservices/downloads/firmw_prog.asp?choice=Upgrade%20programs
Then you also need the binary file with the firmware update
I am using k3b for burning both CDs and DVD+R(W)s (unfortunately k3b uses growisofs that can't handle DVD-R(W) for dvd-burning) and I find the drive fast and reliable. The total burning speed is usually a little bit faster than the media says (10.2x total burning for 10x CD-RW!)
