Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.9-gentoo-r12
Distribution: Gentoo

I was unable to boot the Gentoo LiveCD due to an "ide: lost interupt error" However all other LiveCD's (that use ide-scsi emulation) booted fine. (install Gentoo from the 64bit Knoppix CD)

Also, a bug in gentoo required me to do an "emerge --oneshot libtool" before i could "emerge xorg-x11" (but this is a gentoo fault)

Apart drom that, Gentoo Installed perfectly.

Fedora Core3 x86_64 worked straight out of the box. flawlessly.

All hardware was automatically detected, and supported by the kernel.

this is an EXCELLENT 64bit motherboard, i would recoment it to everyone.

UPDATE !!!

I mentioned that the Gentoo LiveCD / Install CD 2004.3 refused to boot in my previouse post.
This was mentioned in th forums and the solution was to boot with the kernel option noapic. which didnt work.

i later discovered that disableing the apic in the Bios however DOES work.
No need to install Gentoo from a Gentoo afterall.

Unfortunaly, my experiance with the Nvidia sound card is not so good.
th nvidia driver nVsound is OSS only.
the open source ALSA drivers intel8x0 are compatable, but the volume controll doesnt work.

EXCELENT motherboard... but if high quality audio is important to you,
then untill either the kernel hackers pull of amiraacle and hack this driver (without nvidia's help)
OR nvidia release a driver that FULLY supports the sounds chipset in all its glory, you may want to look out for a replacement sound card.

Anyways.. Sound works... and the Nvidia sound chippset rocks, but drivers are lame.
im getting better sound out of a 5 year old Sis AC97 codec.

UPDATE !!!

Bad news :(
I added a second DIMM (ram stick) and discovered a known problem with this board.

the system becomes HIGHLY unstable when AMD's cool and quiet is enabled in the bios, and powernow-k8 drivers are loaded.

In other words, if you have more thn 1 ram stick, you cannot use CPU Frequency scaling. The system is only stable when you run in performace mode.. powersave, ondemand, and userspace will cause a crash within 5 minutes.

In ther words... when idle, my cpu runs at 42 degree's instead of 36degree's

Not the end of the world, but i wouldnt want this on a lasptop, where battery time is important.

Other than that.... its an EXCELENT board...
to decrece tempreture, i have been experimenting with the overclock settings..

i have under-volted my cpu to 1.3 volts, and its still stable !

UPDATE#2 (for this post)

I mentioned in the first update that the sound drivers for nforce-3 sucked.... this has been resolved... Sound quality on this board is beautiful !!!
