This DVD Burner worked right out of the box!
All i had to do was recompile K3B with dvd support (USE="dvdr" for you Gentoo users)
Apparently there is a firmware hack that unlocks the 16x burning speed for all DVD media brands, as Pioneer currently has speeds over 4x locked to specific brandnames.
This firmware hack seems shifty, i personally dont want to try my luck as a few forum posts indicate issues with the current firmware hack/patcher.

Sorry, the above post was mine...
Anyway.. i just flashed my drive.... and i think my heart still hasnt started beating again....
in other words, the flash was sucessful.. just flash the device with the "Normal" firmware... "Kernel" doesnt seem to be needed... but even if you try to flash it with both, DVRFlash v2 complains about an error... and if you try to do it one at a time, you cant do the "Kernel" firmware without the "Normal" firmware..
btw, "Normal" firmware is only needed cause the drive seems to only run in "Normal" mode
