This system works almost flawlessly under
SUSE 10.1.
Keeping in mind that the
HP Compaq NX5000 was one of the first (if not
the first) laptops released with official support for a Linux distribution by a major (SUSE 9.1), Tier 1 manufacturer, SUSE is an excellent distribution choice for this model.
Wireless works out-of-the-box with no configuration, including support for WPA Personal/WPA Enterprise and WPA2 Personal/WPA2 Enterprise, as well as old-school WEP.
As user experienced with many other distributions on many different pieces of hardware,
I cannot overstate how easy installing and using Linux on this laptop was under SUSE.
