Installation went well except with the following:

Wireless adapter (intel ipw2100) not detected automatically, manual driver download and install required, with kernel recompile.
http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net for driver project details.

Errors with NIC, which are not yet resolved - does not detect link.

Orignally was running Mandrake 10 on kernel 2.6. Everything worked, except for wireless adapter, which only worked after a recompile with driver. After that, the kernel did not have one of the wep encrption algorithms required (which came out with the next release).

The system is dual-boot with Windows XP. S-video work great - doesnt work from Windows due to drivers issue, but works great from both Mandrake and Fedora.

Good overall performance and stability after getting through inital difficulties with networking.

Installation worked fine second time around with a complete system pause preventing installation completing first time around.

Bluetooth, SD cards, and wireless are failing to work so far - cannot seem to get wireless working - help would be appreciated!

NIC seems to work perfectly - the issue I found was due to the fact that routers were not passing the information correctly to Linux for DNS etc. Therefore I manually set the DNS settings - the connection is now fine.

855GM under Linux??? How? Please, tell me how in was enabled?

Works all fine including Wireless LAN, VGA out, S-Video out, Firewire..

Only the SD-Card Reader isn't working yet(PCI 7x20/7x21) but should work with the driver from http://www.everestinc.com/fml.htm

HP says that the driver is only available on the driver cd from the nx5000 shipped with suse.

has anyone this device working and/or can send me the driver to: ich at forpresident dot ch ?

This system works almost flawlessly under SUSE 10.1.

Keeping in mind that the HP Compaq NX5000 was one of the first (if not the first) laptops released with official support for a Linux distribution by a major (SUSE 9.1), Tier 1 manufacturer, SUSE is an excellent distribution choice for this model.

Wireless works out-of-the-box with no configuration, including support for WPA Personal/WPA Enterprise and WPA2 Personal/WPA2 Enterprise, as well as old-school WEP.

As user experienced with many other distributions on many different pieces of hardware, I cannot overstate how easy installing and using Linux on this laptop was under SUSE.
