Description:

1.6 Ghz Centrino mobile, 512 Mg ram, 60 Gb, Integrated graphics (it's actually not bad), dvd-cd-r-rw, Memory card, wireless 802.11. I have a dual boot XP-SuSe 9.2. Suse worked great right after install, even the wireless. I cannot recommend a better distro. Two thumbs up. Also, the power managemnet and cpu throttling is great which gives me very good battery life.

Almost everything worked right out of the box. I am using an older Dell 1300 Wireless card which needed ndiswrapper to run. To use the screen in the native 1280x800 mode, a program, 855resolution, needs to be run in the rc.local to patch in the 1280x800 mode. The wide screen and excellent battery life make this a great laptop for long plane flights and DVDs :)
Once those 2 minor things are taken care of everything runs great. I cannot recommand this laptop enough! I got the 1.6 gig, 512M DVD/CDRW model at the Dell Outlet. If you don't know about the outlet (www.dell.com/outlet) you get to buy the units that were returned in the first 21 days and refurbished for 20-35% off and a full warranty. This is the fourth laptop (1100, 5100, 600m, 700m) that I have bought from the outlet and no problems as a result.

Works great, 1.6 Ghz centrino, 80gb hdd, intel wireless abg, widescreen, extended 8 Cell battery, works for about 4-5 hours with backlight dimed. I accually payed aoubt 1800 but dell was doing a 300 off deal. The wide screen took a while to get to work but other then that it works great with linux.

This computer shipped with 1GB RAM, 2.0GHz Pentium M, and an 80GB HDD. I used Ubuntu from the live CD to make a disk image of the fresh XP installation because it had no resotre media.
Everything worked perfectly out of the box except the graphics were set at 1024x768 instead of the proper 1280x768 until I downloaded the 855resolution package from the Debian sarge repository to fix it. Wireless, Ethernet, CD/DVD drive, sound, all worked perfectly. I didn't get to try the SD card reader. It's a shame the owner still wanted to run XP...

Fantastic Notebook. 12.1" screen and just under 2KG's - has a footprint slighty smaller than a 12" iBook. I have the larger size battery which packs a nice 4.5-> 5 hours of life.
DVDRW+- and 80GB 5400RPM hd @ 1.8Ghz with IPW2200 networking.
Have used this machine extensively with slackware and everything worked fine (except for video out and MMC Card reader) after compiling all the drivers from source. Distributions which really worked wonderfully on this machine are Slackware and Ubuntu.
Only 1 x distribution has known the correct intel video driver to install/ the actual size of my screen and the native resolution (1280x800). This was SuSEv.10.1.. It automatically patched to the above res and enbled 3D support. =)
Fantastic small laptop - great to work with Linux.
Currently have installed Slackware/Slax-live on HD/Ubuntu 6.06 and SuSE10.1 - can't get enough :)
