On the whole quite a smooth, straightforward install. Mandrake had no problems with the install and recognised the hardware with no intervention. I switched to Fedora core 3 when I experienced problems with my Java config. With the way mdk is organised it was difficult to set up J2SE SDK, J2EE SDK and my IDE. Fedora Core 3 was better in that regard but it got confused about my DVD/CD RW drive. I can't see cd's inserted in the drive (says already mounted or busy). This is the only problem experienced and the reason I did not rate 10/10. Will post solution if I solve it.
Prior to installing Mandrake I tried to run the RH 8 and 9 distro's but the install routine locked early in the process and failed to install.
