Description: This is the gateway 600 in the ygr form factor (older than yg2), I bought mine in 2002. It is a p4-m box with a 64MB 7500, wifi, firewire, and a 2.1 soundcard. I used SuSE 8.2 and 9.1 with success.
Everything works, except that one must use apm rather than acpi for the fan to work and the computer to boot properly. This is very important. The 7500 configures pretty nicely with the default drivers, and has 3d support, I can play quake III.
I have not tried the wifi, but itis detected fine.
Firewire and sound work with no issues.

More of an update.
Softmodem and WiFi work fine with nothing more than configuration under YAST2.
Sweet

I have the newer 600 (YG2) model. The equipment is almost exactly the same as the 600 (YGR) except the video card is a 64MB Radeon Mobility 9000 and my CPU is a 2.2GHz P4-M. The entire computer except for the Radeon's RCA video-out port and two of the easy-access keyboard buttons works perfectly.

The video-out port will *never* work in Linux as I learned it is a BIOS hack to get it to work in Windows and I don't expect Gateway to come out with a Linux BIOS driver for video-out. Also, the volume up/down keys do not have Xorg key codes so they do not work.
