As of Nov 14th, 2003 I've yet to find a decoder for the "mp4" video. I"ve tried a bunch to include mplayer/ffmpeg and divx. Looking for some more help. Files are saved as .asf ( damn MS proprietory crap ). All I want to do is convert them to something usefull. Box said mpeg4 video. Thought it was the standerd. Boy was I wrong.
Device connects nicely as a sd/mmc media storage device. Everything else is great.
Camera quality is fair to poor depending on lighting, but what do you expect from a product smaller than my wallet.
OK for a toy.

I am yet to try the camera with 2.6.2 or higher. I don't know what difference that will make.
The camera's resolution or light capture ability are bad. However, it's good as a toy. I should have read the reviews before I bought it! The box (and the lens ring)seems to mislead when it says Mpeg4, and .asf is properly compatible with only windows media player.
However, the videos run fine on VLC, so you should try it. I could not get the brightness or contrast settings to work in VLC either under windows or Linux.
It seems the drivers for Linux are not available anywhere. Somebody should really try to write one. I am just a newbie without any programming knowledge, otherwise I would, certainly. The camera is detected on the USB port, but not correctly. Digital Kamera (?) should work with it once the drivers are available.
Rgds,
Nishit

Have been successful now with getting it to work as a webcam. MIC, speaker and camera all work. Check out

I downloaded a beta for the 2.6 kernel, and it loads and work just fine.

Not a very good camera after all, but you can find a driver here: http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html
