I bought this drive less than a year ago, installed it in a server and it lasted 5 months before the drive had failed sectors. The warranty had expired because Seagate ( and possibly others) has the warranty starting when it ships to the retailer.
I sent Seagate the proof of purchase and the drive details and they basically told me to go soak my head.
The moral of this story is never, NEVER buy a hard drive with less than a 3 year warranty. There is a reason you are only getting a year. From Seagate's perspective, many of the drives only have to run a few months before they are out of warranty.
So now I'm licking my wounds and preparing to send back the brand new Seagate drive I just bought and will be in tomorrow - simply because it is Seagate and only has 1 year warranty. It just isn't worth it.
