Description: 865PE PGA478 MAX-4GB DDR ATX 5PCI AGP8X SND LAN SATA 800MHZ

I'm looking into purchasing this one (price is right @ $130CDN) - I will update with details once it arrives.

I am anticipating issues with the sound drivers and ALSA. Has anyone used this board?

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.7-1.494.2.2smp
Distribution: Fedora core 2

Sound is compatible with alsa drivers ( ran alsaconf, and that was it )

Lan detected (e100) no issues

using SMP kernel with HT 3.0E Ghz p4

positives:
three case fan monitor connectors
AGP 8x
onboard LAN
onboard Sound
HT capable (SMP)
PRICE!

negatives:
bios is very restrictive; not as many options as i'm used to (Tyan,Giga-byte, MSI fan)
manual is pretty sketchy; they seemed more concerned with translation into 10 differnt languages than making it easy to read; one diagram (not a lot of detail)

Kernel (uname -r): Custom 2.6.8
Distribution: debian

Everything on this board works with debian sarge stable, and it will even run the SATA drive in native mode. In previous debian distros, you had to have IDE set to compatibility mode, which makes SATA work with only one IDE channel. The board does have the capability to replace the bios when the machine won't boot at all. If you really mistreat the bios, sometimes you need to do this. All you do is download the file from Intel, put it on a floppy, and if the machine won't boot, you pull off the one jumper on the whole board, and boot. The floppy will go, but no video. The machine shuts off when it is done. Nice feature.
