I would say avoid this modem if at all possible although they are often given out free by ISP's. If you have to use it (and it will) use the speedtouchconf script from sourceforge (http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net/).
Although if you're using a 2.6 kernel there are a few problems. It got a 3 because it works fine when it's connected...if you can

I have the silver version of this modem, (revision 4). It worked after a little messing on Mandrake 10.0. I've subsequently set it up in 9.2 too. Haven't tried the updated driver&scripts with 10.1 yet. Haven't tried the sourceforge conf script project yet.

I have the silver modem using PPPoA.

I tried configuring it in the past but gave me alot of headache so I demped it, until recently.

I'm using this for pppoa now with the firmware from http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/driver_upgrade_lx_3.0.1.2.htm, (ie SpeedTouch330_firmware_3012.zip) and software from http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/index.php?/download.en.html (which I compiled myself).

The speedtouch-setup script was very easy to use.

I had to recompile my kernel to include modules for ppp, atm and hdlc line discipline (I already had the hotplug and usb stuff active).

Otherwise it was easy! Works perfectly so far. One thing is that I have to run "speedtouch-start" as root and I don't know enough to be sure this isn't a security risk.

It works just fine with the instructions from sourceforge.net.

Used successfully on mandrake, mandriva, Kubuntu from 7 up to 9.04.

A warning, though. It can conflict with other devices plugged in adiacent USB sockets. And the phenomenon is random, my modem shared has been sharing my PC with my old faithful HP deskjet for years, but then I removed that printer and installed a new SAMSUNG ML-1660 and the modem stopped working as a result!!

Moving the modem from a rear to a front USB socket solved the problem.
