Mandriva 10.2
|
Did fresh install of Mandriva 10.2 (formerly MandrakeLinux). Apparently, support for the Marvel gigabit ethernet controller is included in the new release (i.e. during the install the controller was recognized and internet access through the controller was started). Under 10.1 (Mandrake) I did have trouble with SATA hard drives on the ICH5R controller. SMART would report errors (forget the code). However, moving them to the Promise SATA controller seems to have solved this "problem" mainly because SMART does not support the Promise controller (which presents the drives as SCSI, ie. sda, sdb, etc.) Other than that, the board works flawlessly.

Motherboard has been fully supported in both Fedora Core 4 and SuSE 10 installations. The network was supported and worked during installation in both os's. I had some trouble with sound in an earlier installation of SuSE 9.0 (can't remimber fix but I did get it to work) but that worked fine in SuSE 10. I have not tried SATA ports so I do not know if they are supported.

Worked beautifully with my Prescotts until they broiled themselves. Can't speak to SATA, I have only PATA.

In my quest for an *optimal* run of Linux on the P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard, I tried to install Ubuntu 6.10, then Fedora Core 6, then Fedora Core 4, then Slackware 11... But none of them succeed passing the IRQ confusion in this motherboard.
I have no idea what hardware configuration the other posters in this thread used, but it seems that non of them used my special (?) configuration.
You can read all about my ordeal and frustration in a dedicated thread here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=499811
I also posted a bug report here:
