This was a very pleasant experience to use. The camera was connected via USB.
I Started GPhoto, selected the camera and it worked out of the box.
Any possible EXIF information was shown. It still works like a breeze without having to install "special drivers".
This was a great surprise because when I bought the camera in 2002, there was a piece of software included which would only work with Windows 2000 and earlier versions of Windows. And even with this rather crippled version it was not possible to drag and drop photos or do anything reasonbale with it. I had asked Olympus for an update but was told that I had to buy the "Pro" version for 50$.
This had been one of the reasons why I had had it with Windows.
A word to the hardware:
The camera itself is already a bit "outdated" (Sept. 2004). It has 2.1 Megapixels and a fantastic optical zoom. So, if you want to use it for web pictures: This is your choice, since maximum screen resolution is 96 dpi on normal CRTs and LCDs, afaik. The standard jpg compatible format is 1600x1280 px, far too large for webphotos. So even 2.1 megapixel are more than enough for this.
Disadvantage is the speed of the camera: very slow, especially with flash pictures.
What I like is the use of AA type batteries or rechargeables. You never run out of these.
