Description: NEC-chipset based 2-port 32-bit PCMCIA Card
Up to 500mA per port
Includes a wire which plugs into a PS/2 slot and into the PCMCIA card. This wire is needed to power the card (at least, without it, a flash memory stick or an external hard drive would not work). This is quite inconvenient.
Quite a cheap card (29,95 euros in Europe) which works flawlessly in Linux.
I get over 20MB/sec transfer speeds with an external hard drive.
Keywords: USB 2.0 PCMCIA CARDBUS
Chipset: NEC
Connection Type: PCMCIA

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.6-1-686
Distribution: Debian testing

Works flawlessly in a Dell Latitude C610 laptop with external storage devices (flash memory stick, hard drive).
External hard drive transfer speeds of slightly more than 20MB/sec. In theory, a speed of more than 57MB/sec should be possible.
The quite 'low' speed is either caused by the Sweex USB 2.0 card or by the controller of the external hard disk (a Q-Tec 750H).

The only inconvenience is the apparently required 'power loopback' cable, which plugs into a PS/2 port and into the PCMCIA card in order to deliver some current to the USB ports. Without it, the memory stick or hard drive would not work.
You can still use the PS/2 port, but the power cable is at least a cosmetic impurity. Can be dangerous if you accidentally pull out this cable while transferring data.

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.7 and 2.6.8
Distribution: Debian testing

I noticed that in Debian kernels 2.6.7 and 2.6.8, the device does not work in high speed mode. It works, but only at low (USB 1.x) speeds.
Therefore, I reverted to kernel 2.6.6 to be able to use this device in high speed mode.
