Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.7 and 2.4.22
Distribution: Linux From Scratch 5.0

Had to download hpijs (http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/), foomatic (http://www.linuxprinting.org/) and ESP GhostScript. After installing them, and selecting the appropriate driver combination (Xerox Docuprint P8e hpijs/Foomatic), prints perfect. The guidelines in linuxprinting.org are good for setting this up.

The drivers could be downloaded also from here:
http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Xerox-DocuPrint_P8e

This is working only if you have usb connected printer.
It didn't work with my serial port. Probably I didn't install something, I don't know. This driver worked fine with Slackware 12, kernel 2.6.22.9 and cups. I had no problems after I connected my printer via usb.

Wish you luck :)
