Description:
|
After trying RH and Mandrake I installed MEPIS on this model and it found, configured and installed all my hardware, it ran nicely too!
But then I installed Slackware, it also found, configured and installed everything (except sound but running alsaconf sorted that immediately)
The main dfference I have noticed between MEPIS & Slackware is that although MEPIS is solid, Slackware was bombproof smooth & fast,, very fast!!
I enabled keyboad layouts in the control centre and set my keyboard model to:
Hewlet-Packard Omnibook EX4xxx and ZE4xxx
This actvated the web & mail one touch buttons and also the volume up & down buttons but strangely not mute.
I dont know if the modem works as I use wireless broadband and have no need for it.
I also dont know about firewire as I have nothing to test it with.
On the whole, a great notebook / desktop repacement to run Linux on.

I had to run alsaconf to get my soundcard working under Slackware
I obtained drivers for the HP one touch buttons from www.sourceforge.net/projects/omke
no way of testing firewire, winmodem or infrared.
