I only rated it a 5 because the driver only works for the printer, not the scanner. But, the driver works very well.
See http://ca.geocities.com/freshshelf@rogers.com/install_x1185.html for instructions on installing the Lexmark driver.
Lexmark has made a Linux driver development environment available. If I get some time I"ll see if I can write a driver that supports the scanner as well.
So, yes I'm officially a geek - I wrote a driver for the scanner! The Lexmark driver development environment is crap. Don't even go there!
The driver is available from:
http://ca.geocities.com/freshshelf@rogers.com/scanner_driver/download.html
It's been tested on the X1180, and X185 models but should work for all X1100 series scanners.

If you get the driver directly from Linux, it's called a developers kit. It can be installed in any distro if you have the rpm tools. It works well in Slackware and Mandrake. It's just a learning experience to install. The driver typically has trouble looking up dependencies. Sometimes sym links are needed to newer files and sometimes you just have to run the rpm "-no-deps". I wouldn't waste money on this printer, though because it doesn't print well even in Windows and the ink cartridges are miniscule.
Now, on the scanner side of things, that's a different story.
