Initial installation was smooth, and without problems. All automatic configuration worked, except for sound.

Sound is a cs4237b, which needed the following parameters to function correctly (using ALSA included with distro) -

modprobe.conf had the following lines added to it -
alias snd-card-0 snd-cs4236
alias sound-slot-0 snd-cs4236
options snd device_mode=0666
options snd-cs4236 index=0 port=0x530 cport=0x538 isapnp=0 dma1=1 dma2=0 irq=5 mpu_port=-1 fm_port=0x388

Now everything works like a charm.

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.11-r3
Distribution: Gentoo 2005.0

I also have TP600 (2645-450) with Gentoo installed and I had it with Mandrake10 before, and with SpectraLinux2003 before that which was based on RH7.3.

With Spectra I had to fight little bit with that CS4237B soundcard (sndconfig), but after that with 'alsaconfig' it has been much easier.

Kernel (uname -r):
Distribution: SuSE 9.3

Easy to install, gave a good install selection. Install time : 2 Hours

Hardware:

Didn't autodetect LCD. Had to manually select.

Sound did not install. Ran ALSACONF and saved settings. It sometimes still has issues.

Dosen't provide support for Thinkpad modem or TV card.

I really like SuSE. It's been pretty easy on me compared to the last time I toyed with it. YaST makes it easy to change settings and install programs. I'd reccommend it to anyone looking to get started in Linux.
