So far , I have not yet managed to get this thing working , I can't , for the life of me guess what's wrong with it , I've been doind this for three days by now , messing with initialzation strings and all , and still to no avail . U.S Robotics won't support it , it's not supported under linux , this link :

A 3Com U.S. Robotics 56K Message Modem can work with Linux. Both FC3 and RH9 identified the presence of a serial device and in both installations wvdial allows me to use the modem.
/etc/wvdial.conf reads...
[Modem0]
Modem = /dev/ttyS0
Baud = 57600
SetVolume = 3
Dial Command = ATDT
Init1 = ATZ
FlowControl = Hardware (CRTSCTS)

; Phone = <Target Phone Number>
; Username = <Your Login Name>
; Password = <Your Password>
[Dialer MrNet]
Area Code = 0845
Username = my-username
Password = my-password
Phone = 123456
Stupid Mode = 1
Inherits = Modem0
;speaker mode ATM0=off ATM1 is on during connect, 2 = always on
Init2 = ATM1
;speaker volume 0-3 eg ATL1
Init3 = ATL1
Carrier Check
DNS Test1 mailhost.mynet.co.uk
---------------------
Suggest you lookup AT commands, and prove you can hear a carrier.
My modem is located 20km from the telephone exchange on a very poor line. I rarely achieve 56K.
