I had no problems installing and using this printer with Debian, Gentoo and Mandrake 8.2 -> 10.0

You need cups, and usb working.

You can select the output mode (resolution, color) with the driver

This printer seems to work just fine. COnfigure it in CUPS as a USB printer, selecting HP as the manufacturer and DeskJet 600 series as the model. The only reason this doesn't get full marks is that I haven't found a way to carry out printer maintenance tasks yet (e.g. print head cleaning).

Works fine configured with the FC6 printer settings tool using "HP Deskjet 656c Foomatic/hpijs" ppd, using the USB connection on my desktop PC. Shared on home network with Samba.

I can print from my laptop with Suse 10.2, but the printer driver must be set to RAW, so it uses the driver on the FC6 pc.

No maintainance tools or ink-level monitor, but for the price (zero as it was a present!) can't complain.
