Description: This is a 4 MB video card with the Riva 128 chipset. It was produced circa 1997. This is a 2D/3D card. The original drivers supported Direct3D instead of opengl. Drivers exist that add opengl support. While old, this card can still work well.

Kernel (uname -r): Linux teancum 2.4.20-18.8 Mon Jun 30 17:32:15 MDT 2003 i686 i386 i386 GNU/Linux
Distribution: Red Hat 9

I got this card with my computer originally, back in 1996/7. Even though it only has 4 MB of video memory, it has served me well over the years. It has been a great 2D card for office/school work. Even games like Half-Life and Quake 3 are playable on it. The framerates are not very good on the newest games, but it works. I have played Doom 2, Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, and Half-life using this card.

All distros that I've tried seem to detect is just fine, including Red Hat 7.2 - 9, Mandrake 9.0, slackware, gentoo, knoppix, and a few smaller distros.

The only caveat, it's getting old and showing its age. It won't play the newest games like RTCW, GTA 3, or Medal of Honor. But if you need a good card for an old system, this is a great work horse. Even if you plan to let your kids play some older games, it should be fine.

Enjoy,

Kernel (uname -r): 2.4.20 (RH9 default kernel)
Distribution: Red Hat 9.0

I have a generic AGP 2x card with a nVidia/SGS Thomson Riva128 chipset and 4MB of SGRAM on it. No problems with installation or configuration, picked it up automatically. Works like a treat under RH9.

I do not know the exact age, but when it boots up it has a video BIOS from Februrary 1999.
