Had to format under windows xp to change it from a raw device. Took a while for linux to pick it up, until i editied /etc/fstab and removed the search for an ext3 partiton on removable drives.

I left it as it was preformatted - FAT and it works fine. With Mdk 9.2 it is automatically mounted and an icon appears on the desktop. However, in order to write to it, I must su - to root and open up konqueror on /mnt/removable. Mandrake doesn't automatically unmount it, and if you leave it like that the icon will stay on the desktop permanently (it will think it is always there & mounted) so I unmount it when I'm done. It works great though.

I used Niko Sauer's "USB Flash Memory HOWTO" to dual partition this device. Everyting worked flawlessly. I use KDE and wanted icon click access to mount so I added Zip device icons and they seem to work well with both my vfat and ext2 partition that are on the device.
