This card is a paper weight in Linux. It is a Dell OEM Sound Card that does not use the Sound Blaster chipset. Therefore the drivers provided by the kernel and sourceforge will not work with it. 4Front Technologies has provided a driver for a fee, But I was not impressed by what came out of my speakers in the slightest... Read more about it below, and if you have one of these...... I'm sorry.... You wasted 20 dollars or more on the upgrade from integrated sound...
Moderator EDIT: This card does use a Creative Labs chip, but a more inferior than the EMU10k1. This chip does not have hardware based DirectSound acceleration nor EAX.

Well, I was grabbing the latest alsa-driver-1.0.7 and noticed that it now seems to be supported.... I haven't tried because that sound card is no longer in my desktop. Too little too late for me... I bought a real Creative SB Live! 5.1 days after purchasing my desktop. Have a look here:

Yeah, the alsa driver emu10k1x does work. I've forgot how to install it in slackware. In debian I went to the alsa website and followed their instructions.

This device is compatible with ALSA later than 1.0.5 however the driver a beta and it shows. Although the driver is stable the sound quality is horrible, crackling can be heard.
Sounds is jumpy or non-functional when outputting via the ALSA libraries of most programs. Like the device is cycling on and off rapidly. Outputting to the device through OSS emulation improves sound quality and stops the jumps but still is well below where it should be.
The joystick port does not work, surround features are untested.
The driver is not included with Mandrake because it is a beta, the driver must be obtained by compiling ALSA manually. The easiest way for me was to compile the ALSA version Mandrake 10.1 uses and copy the snd-emu10k1x.ko module into place, installing the new ALSA causes conflicts.

This card is compatible as of ALSA 1.0.5, it needs the emu10k1x driver. Most distro do not include this driver as for it is a beta however it is stable. Just produces very poor quality sound.
Output via ALSA libraries is often jumpy or non-functional. Output through OSS libraries + OSS compatability layer provides smooth playback at generally poor quality.
Avoid if possible, but if you're stuck will mostly work.
