Description:
|
Hewlett Packard ze4240 laptop, manufactured in January 2003. This laptop came with Windows XP Home pre-installed. Standard configuration is 30gig hdd, ATI Mobile Radeon, 256m RAM, AMD Mobile Athlon @ 1.52ghz. The Windows install was used to update the system bios to the newest version, then wiped.
Fedora Core 1 installs with almost no hassles at all. The boot options - acpi=on nopcmcia allowcddma must be used on install. At reboot you must enter interactive mode and disable pcmcia for this boot. /etc/pcmcia/config.opts must be edited to exclude irq 10 - removing the pcmcia conflict. You can now boot without worry.
This machine is very stable under Fedora C1 once a complete yum update has been done. I recommend the yum.conf linked at FedoraNews.org. Search out Eric Raymond's multimedia howto for Fedora. It works well with this machine. This install is almost identical to that of a Compaq 2100 - an example exists at www.clevershark.com
