Description: WUXGA, 1920 x 1200, Nvidia 64mb, Sigmatel modem, Broadcom ethernet and wireless, firewire, I/R, bluetooth, 2.5ghz P4 processor, 1gb of RAM, 80gb hard disk, USB 2.0, CD burner, DVD burner

Pros - great screen, fast machine, does everything I need and will last for 3 years as I purchased 3 year full warranty warranty (cost extra)

Cons- Heavy laptop, battery life poor under XP (2.5hrs) and especially Linux (1.5hrs maximum) , gets alarmingly hot under any O/S,

Big sticker says 'Designed for XP' and that's true. Everything works under XP with no fuss. This machine, as at April 2004, needs cutting/bleeding edge Linux to get everything running properly and numerous 'hacks/tweaks' to get most of the hardware to work. Fortunately a Google will show up many "How to install Linux on 8500" web pages.
