Plug and play with hotplug, and USB Mass Storage as well as SCSI drivers in the kernel. When plugged in, hotplug outputs that it is using 'SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage Devices' with a 'Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision 02' connection to it onto the device sda. Supposedly (though I can't test it as I only have SD cards), the device can handle up to 3 cards in there simultaneously. I am using a USB 1.1 connection, and it works fine.
