Description: Beware. I bought this printer a year ago, and HP has yet to release a driver for it. I ended up getting VMware JUST so I didn't have to constantly reboot into Windows to use it. It is also NOT supported by Sane at this time. Apparently, someone has a webpage where they hacked a driver into partial funtionality, and you can cobble it together with Sane if you want to experiment and/or have the patience. This is a great scanner, but as far as I can tell, it uses a wacky chipset different from ALL of the other HP scanners. Just my luck, right?

I have spoken to HP about this. The scanner uses a parallel port but has a USB to parallel converter in it. Some beta work is available on the web somewhere but it's far from finished. HP said that they are committed to Linux and would try to sort a driver at some point but with no firm promises.
