Description:
|
I decided to purchase this mobo when I read that support for the NF7-S wasn't fully mature, but I was able to find a review of a person whose Debian installed without patches. I've read several updates in the 2.6 kernel changelogs, so I know that this chipset is being actively supported, in case I run into any problems.
The beta3 netinst CD-ROM image of the Sarge Debian Installer did not detect the sound card, but that may be due to its limited size. A full install image may contain the drivers, and I've found many examples of configuring the chip with ALSA (which is now included in the 2.6 kernel), so I expect that it will be detected once I update my kernel (which I was planning on doing anyway).
I'm running an ATA-100 hard drive, so I don't know how good the SATA drivers are or if the on-board RAID (0 or 1) will work.

On-board sound chip was not detected by the installer, but this may be due to the limited nature of the netinst ISO. See http://alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?module=via82xx for ALSA support of the chipset. Please note, I have *not* followed the instructions on that page (yet).

Hi,
So, as this review is abr-2004, I'd like to know how does it goes today. I'm considering a KV7 purchase.
Did you install any sata device on it?
Thanks!

No, not yet. No need to, really.

Had some odd problems at first, but I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version and not had any problems since then. Gentoo 2005.0 detected all onboard stuff fine.
I have the SATA working with no problems, but only a single drive, so I don't know about the RAID feature.
