There is no Z45 driver for Linux from Lexmark, and the Lexmark support people will not give you any information on making it work under linux.
It does work with the standard drivers for z43/z42 at a max resolution of 600dpi. I tried getting it to work at a higher resolution but no success.
If you are happy with 600dpi resolution, then it is an acceptable printer, but not for the price paid.

Okay, here's all I had to do:

1. Start Cups
2. Go to http://127.0.0.1:631
3. Add a new printer, the Lexmark Z43
4. Go into the settings (I can't remember which button) and set the DPI to 300x600

The test page printed, but 300x600dpi is kinda sucky.

At least it works...

EDIT: Fixed a typo in step 2.

Works only through the Z42 or Z43 driver. It worked fine when I tried it in Mandrake 9.2, but stopped about a few lines anytime I tried printing in Redhat 9. I haven't tried it in Gentoo yet (USB problems.

When I used it in Mandrake, it was slow. Really slow. Like two minutes per page. Other than that, it worked.
