in, hook it up and burn, no issues whatsoever.
This is on Mandriva 2005LE. For the price you

Gateway HL-DL-ST GCC-4240 CD-R/RW/ DVD-ROM drive

This drive works just fine with Linux. It is
always recognized as /dev/hdb and reads CDs and
DVDs fine and writes CDs fine with k3b.
