Plug it in, mount the drive (/dev/sda1 for me) and voila! works like any other usb harddrive. usb2.0=fast transfer rates. never tried with the internal memory, but the memory stick is formatted with vfat, so it is mounted as read/write. can copy pictures, movies, and/or data to and from the card with no problem.
the only problem i have with the camera is the proprietary USB/composite connector. If it gets damaged, lost, or stolen, youre SOL unless you want to buy one from sony of off of ebay. other than that, i love the camera!
I have used it with Arch .7.0 and .7.1, ubuntu hoary, breezy, and dapper, knoppix 3.7-3.9, all with various kernels, but they all worked the same way--mount the drive and copy the pictures

I have only had a few problems with this laptop. I can't get the irda, volume/shortcut/fn keys and powersave mode to work. I have not tried the modem, so i cannot comment on it.
the display is beautiful, i get a fair number of FPS with glxgears (between 160 and 190), ethernet works out of the box, sound is good (altho, the sound modules are broken in the 2.6.13 kernel....they work in 2.6.12, tho), usb, floppy, cdrom, touchpad, everything but the things mentioned above works great!
900MHz PIII
256MB PC100
14.1"
Netgear WG511T
24x cdrom
my lspci is different than the original poster's. mine has:
00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100] (rev 09)
00:09.1 Serial controller: Lucent Microelectronics LT WinModem
instead of the ethernet/modem that (s)he had.

follow the directions on this page and youll have no problems. worked great for me after modprobing ppa. Suse, mandrake and fedora recognized it right off the bat, i just had to modprobe ppa for it to work.

good card. good sound. only problem is that I can only get it to play 1 audio stream at a time. it sucks that i cant play music and have the sounds for gaim or other programs....unless i did something wrong.
supported with 2.6 and 2.4 kernels (atleast they have for me)
kernel module is snd_cmipci
I have the onboard sound with my Soyo kt400 dragon ultra platinum mobo, not the PCI version
