I was surprised this worked without a hitch. I didn't have to download any drivers or anything. I just plugged it in, and inserted the Smart Card from my camera. I was very quickly able to see an icon for the device on my desktop. (Note: I do not see a desktop icon, unless I have a card inserted into the device, but I think that works best for me!) It is so small and lightweight, and the USB cable which comes packaged with it is a bit over 20 inches long, including the plug ends -- perfect for me. There is a light on the device which simply indicates that it is plugged in to the USB port. There are four different sized slots on the front of the device, but it says on the packaging that it accomodates 21 different types of cards. I have only used it with 2 types of cards myself: a SmartMedia 1D 16MB Memory Card, and a Toshiba 1.0 GB SD Memory Card; it works great with those. I would buy this device again!

I love this camera. It is not a top-of-the-line model; at $500 or so, it was more the economy model of its day. But mine after many years now, is still working fine. And shortly after I installed Ubuntu Linux, I tried the camera, and it worked without a hitch. I simply plugged in the USB cable, and I'm fairly certain that my device was recognized. (I don't even think I had to download a driver from the Fui website.) If I had to do it all over, I'd buy this camera again. One thing I should mention is that I never tried to install Fuji's pic-viewing software. I'm happy with just using Linux stuff to work with the pictures. So I don't know if the Fuji software works or not. (I think it was called FinePix Viewer maybe, something like that.) I hope someone else can comment on whether that software, which came with the camera originally, works with Linux.
