 My ADAPTEC AUA-3100LP USB2 CONNECT seems to work but doesn't solve my problem : « cannot enumerate USB device » message when plugging my digital camera. There is no USB-booting capabilities if the computer BIOS doesn't do it by itself, at the contrary of some SCSI cards of the brand.

 This is a nice notebook for a nice price ($499 on sale, $649 regular). Aluminum shell, low power Core i3 processor with integrated graphics. Not exactly speedy, but for sale price just slightly a little more than some netbooks, it is quite fast enough. Uses your average low budget LCD display. This notebook uses UEFI, and as such an install image must have the appropriate bootloader. Secure boot must be disabled at this point. Functionality with Debian Wheezy/Testing was pretty good right from an install. Everything works with the defaulty configuration, including WiFi and display. For the touchscreen to work, a newer kernel is needed (at least 3.6.X), which is available in the Debian experimental repositories. Touchscreen seemingly works by emulating the mouse. I had tried a live image of Ubuntu on this laptop, which worked well with no configuration changes, including the touchscreen. Other distribution live images were not UEFI compatable and therefore not tested on this laptop.

 It works well so far, and it was cheap. I kind of had to buy it because I can't seem to find socket 775 boards anymore. My current setup: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz RAM: 2 GB DDR2 Corsair 800 MHz CL-5 GPU: GeForce 8800 GTS 512 My only complaint so far is that being a micro ATX board, it's a bit hard to work around the components. It was hard to plug in the SATA cables right next to and behind the nvidia graphics card (won't be a problem if you use the onboard one). It was also hard to reach the 4 pin 12V power connector once the CPU fan is on. I suppose I should have plugged it in before adding the CPU fan ? Some BIOS options are not well documented, but this is a common problem with many mobos. Sadly the ICH7 southbridge does NOT support AHCI. However, the ata_piix drivers seems stable and just as fast as AHCI was on my previous board.

 It worked well you need some commands to control certain things touchpad settings synclient TapButton1=1 MaxSpeed=4 AccelFactor=.1 brightness 0-7 echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness

 No drivers yet for the NCT6779T Super I/O chip so no lm_sensors. Other than that it works well with no other issues running Fedora 18 Beta installed from UEFI USB stick. UEFI BIOS updated (blind - no M$) from USB OK. Initial power draw with Intel i3 3225, Seasonic G360 PSU, Intel PCIe GB NIC, four fans, 8GiB DDR3 and 250GB HDD was 32W at the wall. Dropped to 25W after kernel boot and ondemand CPU govenor. :D Not stress tested yet. Looks like the Nuvoton Super I/O drivers will take some time to make the kernel and even longer to hit Fedora. :rolleyes: Check out the competition for now... --DaveG.

 Memory card slot stopped working. (I have not used it for a while) Workaround is:
sudo su -l echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan

 The mobo works perfectly well. I use it with a Athlon II x2 250 CPU @ 3GHz (the mobo needed a BIOS upgrade) and 4 GB RAM @800 MHz and no dedicated vid card as the onboard is very good for my needs. Never cared for the Express Gate function. BTW what practical use does it have? You have an OS installed on the computer already - if you want fast startup, just suspend the computer. The integrated graphics (nvidia 8200) are quite fast for an IGP -its actually faster than a dedicated 7300 with the same speed RAM (800 MHz). I use the proprietary nvidia driver. Additionally the hardware decoding via VDPAU works wonderfully - 1080p clips played with mplayer use ~10% CPU. I did not try the HDMI output. Suspend/hibernate works perfectly. I ran Ubuntu 9.04-9.10, then Debian Squeeze and now Wheezy on it, did not have any issues. All in all this mobo works perfectly with Linux, especially because its integrated card is supported by nvidia with the proprietary drivers. The SATA ports are plug-and-play, i connected/disconnected many hdds runtime (mainly for data recovery) and it worked with no issues (well except when the drive was damaged that is...).

 I have one of these ancient printers. It always worked fine under Windows 95 and Red Hat 9. It even worked more recently under Ubuntu 11.04. However, when I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 and then to 12.04, I could not get it to work anymore, even though drivers are still provided by Ubuntu. I finally gave up and brought a more modern Brother.

It's pretty fast, the display is nice, has a built in microphone, has a full standard keyboard, has 3 GB of memory, and is still working almost flawlessly even after 3 years. Problems that have arised before: touchpad mouse temporarily stops working, 10 key stops working (the other number keys are fine). Areas of concern: sound output quality is not the best Note: there are even older Windows 7 laptops that don't have 3 GB memory. But 4-6 GB is becoming the standard. *NB: The above info was put into the Description field, which should only contain technical information.  When it works, it's a great scanner, inexpensive and good images. However, every time I upgrade distros I have a difficult time reinstalling it as for some reason linux doesn't consider it a standard scanner. There are several posts around the web explaining how to do the installation, (for example http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1000341&page=3 and http://hnygard.no/ubuntu/epson-v300-scanner-on-ubuntu-11-10/) and I have used it in the past with only occasional difficulty. But currently can't get it to work very often. Usually I just haul out my windoz netbook, scan and transfer. I might buy some other scanner, or maybe wait 'til my next upgrade and try again.
