Gloves for my feet

Posted 05-01-2012 at 08:40 PM by Tinkster

Boy, time does fly, and I didn't blog anything in a long time!

I just felt that I had to mention that I completed my first overnight tramp
(no, not loose woman, the hike variety) with a heavy back-pack on in my treks.

No problems, even on rugged terrain, with mud, tree roots, boulders, pebbles,
shingle, you name it ... my feet were happy, as were my knees, ankles, lower
back. Awesome experience; I guess if it gets colder I'll try the flows for...

Gloves for my feet - the foul weather version ...

In the last post I said they were fine in foul weather ... boy, was I wrong :}

The recent cold-snap, with temperatures just above freezing point, and wind-chills pushing it well below I felt compelled to seek an alternative to my current standard-footwear. So far into the -admittedly mild - winter my trusted KSOs have given me enough warmth, but no more; this morning I felt fairly unhappy, and my toes were complaining quite bitterly about the cold and the abuse I gave them. So I looked...

Gloves for my feet - the 4th installment

Posted 07-20-2011 at 12:17 AM by Tinkster

Wow ... time sure flies; it's been over seven months now
that I've been wearing VFFs almost exclusively! Had the odd
stint at actual barefoot running, to find that VFFs definitely
are more robust than the soles of my feet - had to peel shards
of glass out of my foot. Will refrain from running barefoot
in poor visibility conditions :}

I still swear by the vibrams, even in foul weather (cold & wet)
they're very acceptable. I use three models...

Gloves for my feet - part 3

Posted 01-30-2011 at 02:16 AM by Tinkster
Updated 01-30-2011 at 02:25 PM by Tinkster (typo in distance.)

Today I wore my fivefingers for a ~ 12.5Km bush-walk. I was
initially a bit worried about stubbing toes, spraining ankles
and what have you ... nothing the like happened, even though
the terrain wasn't always easy. I did manage to lightly bump
my toes 3 times in the persuit, but didn't really do them any
harm - strangely enough. Going downhill on sharp rocks proved
a bit slower than I hoped for, but it was all good fun, and
when I've gotten more used to...

gloves for my feet - part 2

Posted 01-25-2011 at 03:06 PM by Tinkster

The fivefingers are truly amazing. Reached a stage where
I can wear them for extended periods of time on a daily
basis, doing my walks around town and on bush-walks within
the city on a regular basis.

My feet hate being in "normal shoes", even my extra wide
asics feel unpleasantly tight.

I think my posture has improved, and my muscles (calves
and hamstrings) are now coping well w/ the "unusual exercise".
