What do I like about the latest Ubuntu?

Well, the way Karmic handles my graphics is vastly improved over 8.10 and 9.04. No last minute hacking required. And, I must admit, I like the new bootup, which is distinctly more graphical (though less information-rich) and reminiscent of Mac OS X or Windows. In this instance, the proprietary operating systems had something right, and I've come to expect a polished and friendly approach to GNU/Linux whenever I install or boot into Ubuntu or one of its derivatives.

Besides a few things like better wallpapers, the nicer-looking bootup, and a few more recent point-releases (such as Firefox), I haven't really noticed much on the desktop side of things. But that might be me. I have no real use for Ubuntu One. I also install 90% of my software with a simple apt-get install, so the new graphical package management system is lost on me, I'm afraid.

However, I'm pleased with ext4 and the new GRUB, so that's nifty, I suppose. All in all, the move from Jaunty to Karmic is a greater improvement than the move from Intrepid to Jaunty, though not by much.
