What do I like about the latest Ubuntu?

Well, the way Karmic handles my graphics is vastly improved over 8.10 and 9.04. No last minute hacking required. And, I must admit, I like the new bootup, which is distinctly more graphical (though less information-rich) and reminiscent of Mac OS X or Windows. In this instance, the proprietary operating systems had something right, and I've come to expect a polished and friendly approach to GNU/Linux whenever I install or boot into Ubuntu or...

iaudit (a useful bashscript)

This is the most useful bashscript I have ever written. It copies and converts a directory of audio files to quality 4 (128 kb/s) ogg vorbis files and moves them to my mp3-player, which is a Cowon iAudio F2. The bashscript is called iaudit.

The iAudio is a nice mp3-player because it can play ogg vorbis and flac files in addition to mounting as a disk device in Linux.

An introduction:

I am a GNU/Linux user and an advocate for Free and Open Source software. I currently dual-boot Ubuntu and FreeBSD, though I am considering a switch to Debian. My desktop environment of choice is always Fluxbox; if you were to force me to choose between KDE and GNOME, however, I would almost always pick GNOME.

I am a computer science student who hopes to one day become a software developer and it is mostly in the field of programming that computers grab...
