My wife has been windows free for three months. I have not had to do any repairs to her desktop and she has been telling her friends how great her Suse works. I now have my daughter asking to install linux on her netbook. She is not sure about their desktop, but is thinking about letting me setup a dual boot.

This morning I converted booting 7 distros to grub2 after updating ubuntu to 10.4.1 ext 4 file system. I still have some fine tuning to do but was surprised at the ease and simplicity. You have to abandon most of the old grub legacy way of thinking. I have a large data partition to convert from ntfs to ext4. I will then be totally linux flavored.

My wife was a die hard M$ user. She likes her games but somewhere along the way she got a nasty mal-ware. I refused to clean it up this time. I did not have a recovery partition or cd so I told her if she wanted to continue to use M$ she would have to figure out how to clean it herself or start using linux. I showed her several options and she chose knoppix. I think in a couple of more weeks when she gets more comfortable she will be hooked permanent.

I am disturbed with the meaning of 'Rebates' from Service Companies. I bought a wireless modem which had a $100 usd rebate which the sales person said I had to mail for. That is the proceedure I had used for claiming prior rebates. The part that was different was this rebate could only be used instore to purchase a service larger than the rebate. It can not be used to apply against your current service charges or monthly billing. Is there any truth in Sales Advertising?

I started using Suse 10.2 when I was forced into medical retirement. At first it was discouraging, but as I learned the terminology it became easier. Once you learn how to use YaST (package manager) it becomes easy. I do not know if I would be using any linux distro if I had started with any other distro.
